Couples Therapy in Redondo Beach

Improve communication to restore balance in your relationship.

When communication has deteriorated, it’s difficult to feel supported and heard by your partner. It may feel like both of you are fighting each other instead of uniting to fight a problem. You have likely tried many times to address the issues, but can’t seem to resolve the fights in a way that feels good for both of you. When couples arrive in my office, they feel defeated, and are close to giving up. Through our work together, you and your partner can learn how to turn things around and reconnect. You can gain new skills and create new patterns to rebuild your relationship with understanding, love, and connection. Healing is possible.

I’m Rebecca,

I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and I specialize in working with high achieving couples. If you feel successful in many areas of life, but feel that your partnership is struggling, I can help. If you’d like to feel more connected to your partner, improve your communication, or reconnect after feeling distant, I provide tools to help you and your partner overcome communication issues and discover happiness. My approach is direct, supportive, and gets to the heart of the issues rather than just staying at the surface. I use tools in session to show you how powerful good communication can be while we work to resolve the current issues, as well as healing past problems that have led to long lasting resentment.

How couples therapy works.

Step one

Submit an inquiry here.

Step Two

If we’re a good fit to work together, we’ll schedule an 80-minute intake session. We’ll get to know each other and make a plan for your time in therapy.

Step Three

I typically meet with couples every other week for a 75/80 minute session. We can adjust this based on your needs. Couples therapy usually lasts about 6 months, but can range between 3 and 12 months depending on your goals. We will start with skill building, then applying these new skills to your relationship.

Frequently Asked Questions

+ Why is my relationship suffering after having a baby?

Having a baby is one of the biggest life changes anyone can experience, and change is a natural stressor on relationships, so experiencing a strained relationship after having a baby is normal. However, it’s important to learn healthy ways to handle the change so that you and your partner can strengthen your relationship rather than weaken it. Through couples therapy, I help my clients make sense of the conflict, miscommunication, and overwhelm so that they learn to become a team again.

Research has found that ⅔ of couples experience a decrease in relationship satisfaction after the birth of a baby. This decrease in satisfactions can be explained by looking at the massive shifts that happen very suddenly when a child is born. The lack of sleep, increase in chores such a dishes and laundry, lack of 1:1 time as a couple, financial strain, and decreased intimacy all create an environment for relationships to suffer. Both parents are also going through their own transition to their new role as parents, and this can often be confusing and stressful. Luckily, research has also found some simple yet effective tools that help couples regain a sense of closeness, understanding, and love toward each other. It is possible to grow your love through this experience and come out stronger than ever before.

+ Can a marriage survive infertility?

With the right tools, support, and guidance, a marriage can absolutely survive infertility. Although it may feel like infertility has placed a gaping hole in your relationship, couples therapy can help you bridge the gap and restore balance in your relationship again.

Infertility can cause a strain on your relationship. Each person deals with infertility differently, and this can cause challenges for a couple. Communication is the key for keeping your relationship strong and connected during this time. Learning to support each other on your individual journey will help you come together as a couple.

+ What if my partner doesn’t want to do couples therapy?

Successful couples therapy relies on both partner’s willing involvement, so if your partner’s not quite ready, it may be too soon to start. However, if you’re ready to begin now, consider starting individual therapy for yourself. You can create a lot of changes in the relationship by simply changing your own stance.

+ How long does therapy last?

Depending on what the presenting problem is, and how motivated you are to create shifts, anywhere from 3 months to 12 months. I usually recomend allowing 6 months, with the first 3 being the "change" period (we will create lots of changes in structure and communication) and the second 3 being "application and warming" back up to each other. During our intake session I will likely be able to give a better idea about how long your particular journey might last. The more motivated and willing to implement changes, the faster the therapy will progress.

+ Do you provide tools or resources to use at home?

Much of the work we do in session will be building your skills to use at home. Therapy is a brief period each week where you gain new insight, but the real work comes when you get home and engage in your usual patterns with your partner. I will provide skills coaching and practice in session, as well as offer support to the part of you that doesn't want to use your skills in the heat of the moment.

+ What does couples therapy cost?

  • 50-minute Session: $250
  • 80-minute Session: $370
  • Associate Therapists: $175+ for 50 minutes, 260+ for 80 min

I can also work with you to create a package around your budget to fit your needs. Please reach out to me with questions about this option.
Please call to inquire about associate therpaists who may be able to offer a lower hourly rate.

+ Do you accept insurance?

I am not paneled directly with any insurance companies due to the restrictions in mental health coverage. However, if you have a PPO plan, you will likely have reimbursement coverage for sessions with me. I can walk you through this process and how to ask your insurance company about this coverage. I want to provide the best possible services to you, and being out-of-network is how I have managed to do that. Learn more about my insurance policies here.
